The sun was melting into purple grey dusk when Moomy got home. Her meeting with the Hayats had left her feeling dirty and drowned in the past. She needed to speak to Sarah, let her know about the barefaced lies Victor had told her. The denial and then the admission. He knew what time Millie and Oscar would arrive in Istanbul, what time the car would pick them up and what route it would take. He had planned it all to the last detail. A kind brotherly gesture. Or something more sinister? They would have warrants to do searches on his financial history in the morning, although given the Hayats’ standing it might be wishful thinking. She checked her phone again. Maybe Sarah was off praying somewhere. She had the annoying habit of wanting to visit every one of the million mosques in London to try them out. Freak. And she kept trying to rekindle something in Moomy. Leave it, she had told her. Moomy was too fucked up to think about those things. Had been on her own journey to get to where she was.

Moomy went to have a soak. Mistake. Alone, closed eyes, thoughts of Harry so close. Her past so close. The oppression so close. She was back there. Back with Harry. Back in that place. The place she had died.
